Check in textbooks

The Check In feature lets you quickly track textbooks, assess any necessary fines, and collect statistics.

To check in textbooks by barcode:

  1. Select Circulation > Check In Text.
  2. Make sure the cursor is in the Find Copy field.
  3. In the Find Copy field, scan or type the barcode number of a textbook. If you type the barcode, click Go or press Enter. The copy moves to the Most Recently Checked In section.
  4. If a textbook is damaged and you want to add a fine to the patron's record, click Create Fine.
  5. To change the Condition, use the drop-down.
  6. If you want to provide a receipt, do one of the following:
    • To print a receipt: Click Print Receipt to open a printable PDF.
    • To email a receipt:
      1. Click Email Receipt, and then select the email addresses to include.
      2. Click Send.

      Notes:

      • To customize receipts, see Set up receipts and refund notifications.

      • To use the email features in Destiny, the Destiny Administrator needs to set up the SMTP mail server.

      • Receipts with product-specific fine data will honor the View library fines, View resource fines, View textbook fines, and View patron fines permissions. This means users will only see associated info on the receipt. For example, users with the View resource fines permission will only be able to see resource-related receipts.
  7. To continue checking in textbooks, scan the next item's barcode in the Find Copy field.

To check in textbooks by ISBN:

  1. Select Circulation > Patron Status.
  2. In the Find field, scan or type the patron's barcode.
  3. In the row of the applicable ISBN (unbarcoded) copy, click Check In.
  4. Repeat as needed.
