Manage instructional classifications
Instructional classifications let you define what type of material a resource is or how it is used. You can also define if it is a permanent resource or a consumable, and whether or not the resource type can have a barcode.
While most often used with textbook resources, this field exists across all resource types. New instructional classification values can be added as needed.
To manage your instructional classifications:
- Select Catalog > Resource Search.
- Find the resource you want, and then click Details. The Resource Details tab appears.
- Click Edit.
- Make changes as needed.
- If none of the instructional classifications apply, click Other…. The Manage Instructional Classifications page appears.
- To create a new instructional classification, type a name in the Name field.
- Select the applicable barcode rule:
- Can have a barcode lets you assign, not assign, and remove barcodes.
- Never have a barcode prevents anyone from assigning barcodes to the items and prevents Destiny from importing or uploading items with barcode numbers. Unbarcoded titles are materials that you don't circulate but still want to track in inventory, such as lab materials and teacher's editions.
Note: You cannot select this option if this resource has any existing barcoded items. If checked out, these items need to be checked in through Patron Status or globally.
- Are consumable prevents anyone from assigning barcodes to the items. Consumables are materials that patrons use once and discard, such as spelling workbooks and lab manuals. Destiny only accepts counts for these items. If checked out, they are automatically deleted on their due date.
