Merge Duplicate Resource Records Using a Resource List (Resource Manager)

Your database may contain several duplicates for the same resource. Duplicate resources can cause confusing search results, skew circulation statistics, and bloat your database.

With the Merge feature, you can add all the duplicate resources to a Resource List, select the best record, move all the items to it, and delete the others.

The merge process affects your database in the following ways:

  • It changes the association of items from one resource record to another. It does not merge or alter any information in the resource records.
  • After merging the items onto one resource record, the process permanently deletes the other resource records.

Note: Site users need the Merge items from duplicated resources permission to merge duplicate records.

To merge the items:

  1. Create a Resource List with the duplicate titles.
  2. Log in to the district or a site.
  3. Select Catalog > Resource Lists.
  4. If there is more than one list, click View next to the list with the resources you want to merge.
  5. Select the Duplicated resource checkbox for those resources you may want to merge.
To select them all, click Select Page at the bottom of the list.
  6. After selecting all possible duplicates, use the I want to drop-down to select View these Duplicates, and then click Go.
  7. On the View Resource Duplicates page, evaluate the resource records to determine which one you want to keep. To review a record, click Details.
  8. If a particular resource is not a duplicate, click Remove to remove it from the Possible Duplicates list (but not from your Resource List).
  9. Once you find the "best resource," select Best resource next to it.
  10. At the bottom of the list, click Merge. A pop-up appears.
  11. To proceed, click Yes. Destiny transfers the item records from all the other resource records in the View Resource Duplicates list onto the "Best resource" record. Destiny then deletes the remaining (now item-less) resource records.

This process leaves you with the one best resource record, with all of the items attached to it.
