Resource Description and Access (RDA)

RDA expands patrons’ ability to find, identify, select, and obtain resources. MARC records in RDA format contain more information about the content type.

examples:

  • Content type - performed music, still image
  • Media type - audio, video
  • Carrier type - videodisc, flipchart

To change your Preferred Descriptive Cataloging Form to RDA, see Preferred Descriptive Cataloging Form.

In Library Manager, you can convert MARC records that follow AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules) to follow RDA cataloging rules.

important:

  • You must convert MARC records one at a time.
  • When you change the preferred descriptive cataloging, the changes only apply to records moving forward; existing records are not converted.
