Update Digital Titles

Notes:

  • Digital titles include Follett Digital and publisher-hosted content (purchased from Follett), as well as OverDrive® and MackinVIA™ titles.
  • In order to update MackinVIA or OverDrive titles via the Follett Digital Update job, you need to integrate Destiny with MackinVIA and/or OverDrive.

There are two types of Follett Digital Update jobs – daily and partial. The daily job checks for any added or removed digital titles and updates your catalog accordingly. Changes include:

  • Removing titles you hide from the catalog.
  • Removing titles not owned by the site or shared by the district.
  • Adding new titles.
  • Removing limited-use titles that have reached their checkout limit or are expired.
  • Updating titles with new information.

Note: Expired or hidden copies are only deleted if you have Destiny configured to do so. To review or edit the setting, select Catalog > Search Setup > Digital sub-tab. In the Synchronize Titles section, select the Remove titles and copies that are expired or hidden checkbox.

If you want to run updates immediately, you can do so manually at any time.

A partial job runs when a new order is processed, and only adds new titles. Other changes are handled via the daily job. Follett Digital orders are processed multiple times a day.

Note: Follett Audiobooks are delivered via the daily Follett Digital Update job.

To review the latest Follett Digital Update Job Summary:

  1. Select Admin > Job Manager.
  2. From the Job Manager page, find the most recent Follett Digital Update job, and then click View.
  3. Review the report. Use the following table to learn more about the status messages:
    MessageDetails
    Skipped

    If your Destiny already contains a copy of the title, then no changes are made.

    Added

    The title was added to Destiny.

    Notice

    The MARC record is either hidden or is not part of your collection.

    Removed

    If you selected the Remove titles and copies that are expired or hidden checkbox, then the noted title and copies are deleted.

Note: If there is a Manage Destiny Copies link in the status message, use it to add copies (optional). You do not need to add copies of Follett Digital titles, as Destiny automatically tracks the appropriate amount of copies. The availability of copies appears in both Destiny Discover and Destiny Back Office; however, you need to add copies to see a copy count in a title's details in Destiny Back Office.

To run an immediate update:

Note: This requires the access level permission, Allow Follett Digital Setup.

  1. Select Catalog > Search Setup > Digital sub-tab.
  2. In the Synchronize Titles section, select or deselect the Remove titles and copies that are expired or hidden checkbox, as needed.
  3. Click Update. A pop-up appears.
  4. Click Yes to proceed. A message lets you know the update was submitted and that you can go to Job Manager to view its progress.
